Kojic acid dipalmitate is the derivative of kojic acid, which is a chelation agent, synthetized through multi-component reactions. Kojic acid dipalmitate is white to off-white crystalline powder. It is a mild inhibitor of the formation of pigment in plant and animal tissues, and is used in food and cosmetics to preserve or change colors of substances. Compared with kojic acid, kojic acid dipalmitate is more stable to light, temperature and metal ion.

Kojic acid dipalmitate has antioxidant property, and it may help scavenge free radicals and improve cell activities. It can inhibit the synthesis of tyrosinase and reduce the secretion of melanin.

Kojic acid dipalmitate is liposoluble, and it can be effectively absorbed by skin, so it is mainly used in cosmetics for skin whitening.
